Liner Installation Day: What to Expect & How to Prepare (Niagara & GTA Guide)

Updated: Feb 19

So, you’ve picked out your favorite designer pattern and booked your installation date. You’re only 24 hours away from a pool that looks brand new!

At Sandy Bay Pool Services, we pride ourselves on a "perfect fit" reputation built over 20 years. But a flawless, wrinkle-free finish isn’t just about the installation—it’s a partnership between the pro and the homeowner.

Here is exactly what to expect when we arrive, and the critical steps you need to take to protect your new investment.

Phase 1: The "Clean Slate" (Measurement Day)

Before we can give you a perfect fit, we need perfect data.

  • The Cut-Out: Unlike installers who measure over your old, sagging liner, we cut out the old vinyl first.

  • The "Bones" of the Pool: This allows our measurement specialist to see the actual walls and floor. By measuring the "bare bones" of the pool, we ensure your custom liner is manufactured with surgical precision.

  • What we need: Please ensure we have access to outdoor water and electricity during this visit.

Phase 2: The Deep Prep

On installation day, we don't just "drop it in." We prepare the site to ensure longevity:

  • Wall Restoration: We scrape and grind the steel walls to remove rust and dirt, applying specialized rust paint where needed.

  • Floor Smoothing: We perform minor concrete repairs and a "Zero-Debris" sweep to ensure there are no stones or bumps under your feet.

  • The Seal: We meticulously tape all wall seams and coping joints. This makes the pool airtight, which is the secret to a successful vacuum-set installation.

Phase 3: The "Fill Phase" (Your Most Important Job!)

Once the liner is in place, we hook up high-powered liner vacuums. These vacuums suck the air out from behind the vinyl, pulling it tight against the walls.

This is where we need your help. To keep the liner wrinkle-free, please follow these instructions:

  1. Leave the Vacuums ON: The vacuums must run 24/7 until the water reaches the mark. Do not unplug them for any reason. If the suction is lost, the liner can shift, and wrinkles will form.

  2. Watch the Tape Line: We will place a piece of tape on the shallow-end wall. This is your "Finish Line."

  3. The Stop Point: Once the water hits the bottom of that tape line, turn off the hose and unplug the vacuums.

  4. Do Not Overfill: It is tempting to keep the water running, but overfilling makes it impossible for us to clip the liner in properly. It can also stretch the vinyl around the vacuum tubes, leaving permanent marks.

Why the Details Matter

Taping the seams and running the vacuums until the precise "tape line" is what separates a DIY-look from a professional Sandy Bay installation. It ensures that the thousands of pounds of water pressure work with the liner, not against it.
