Facing a damaged pool liner? Before you hear ¨time for a new one,¨ use this quick checklist from Sandy Bay Pools. With 20+ years fixing liners in Niagara, Hamilton, and the GTA. I can tell you: many ¨unfixable¨ liners can be saved.
✅ When to Choose: On-Site Vinyl Welding & Repair
If you check these boxes, our specialized repair techniques can likely save you thousands.
[ ] The "Accidental" Tear: A pool pole, a dog’s claw, or a sharp object caused a clean rip in an otherwise healthy liner.
[ ] The "Pinhole" Mystery: Your liner looks great, but you’re losing an inch of water a day. (Our electronic detection finds these in minutes!)
[ ] Corner Pull-outs: The liner has slipped out of the track but is still flexible enough to be reset.
[ ] Fitting Leaks: You have a leak specifically around the skimmer, stairs, returns, or lights. We can weld in new vinyl to reinforce these areas.
[ ] Age: Your liner is under 7–10 years old and still feels "stretchy" or pliable to the touch.
🚩 When to Choose: Full Liner Replacement
Sometimes, the smartest investment is a fresh start. We recommend a Poolwerx custom replacement if:
[ ] The "Dry Rot" Test: The vinyl above the waterline feels brittle, looks "crusty," or cracks when you give it a gentle tug.
[ ] Extensive Fading: Extreme UV bleaching has made the vinyl thin and porous.
[ ] Recurring Wrinkles: If the liner has shifted significantly or "grown" over time, creating large folds that trap debris and won't stay flat.
[ ] Multiple "Ghost" Leaks: You’re finding new holes every other week. This usually means the chemical balance has reached the end of the vinyl’s lifespan.
[ ] Age: The liner is 12–15+ years old. At this stage, the structural integrity of the vinyl is usually too low for a reliable weld.
